Irrigation
David Painter has been involved with irrigation since 1969!  He did a lot of the first ‘still-air’ testing in New Zealand of distribution patterns from medium-pressure impact sprinklers.  The computer program he wrote to overlap the patterns was later incorporated into commercial irrigation design software.  These days we are involved mostly at the level of water requirements, resources and supply for irrigation schemes, volumetric efficiency of water use and expert evidence at resource consent hearings.
Wind erosion
Research into soil erosion by water and wind was carried out in the 1970s.  Wind erosion in a temperate country like New Zealand is a less constant and ubiquitous  hazard than in  countries with more arid areas so there are not many ‘experts’ in the field.  Recently that expertise has been called upon by a number of clients in the Upper Waitaki Basin.
